Our responsibility
We emphasise a responsible approach to raw materials and regularly conduct quality audits to ensure that our flour meets the highest standards.
Since 2014, some of our flour has been produced from grain from regenerative farmers who use gentler farming practices. Since 2016, a small part of our produce has also been milled from grain which is certified Organic.
We know that the quality of our products, customer satisfaction and the overall sustainability of our business depend on the entire supply chain from grain to the end product, in our case the flour. That’s why we’ve been monitoring our carbon footprint across the entire chain since 2023. Read more about our findings below.
Grain
Local farmers caring for the soil in sustainable ways
Growing grain in the field is a very skilled job. Each grain needs enough nutrients and farmer’s care. In total, carbon dioxide emissions related to grain (so-called FLAG emissions – Forest, Land and Agriculture) represent 88% of the mill’s total carbon footprint. This is the most important finding, and we are intensively exploring the possibilities of reducing these emissions at the mill.
We work with local farmers to ensure the lowest possible fuel consumption. We work with farmers who grow grain through the regenerative agriculture or in the organic mode. By growing grain this way, farmers significantly reduce the consumption of synthetic fertilisers and pesticides, rotate the crops that grow in the field, and also plant melliferous belts, trees, shrubs and other plants for insects. Such fields are then healthier and have higher soil productivity.
Currently, flour made from grain grown in regenerative and organic farming accounts for approximately 32% and by 2030 we want to increase the proportion of this flour to 50%.

2024: 32 %
grain from regenerative and organic agriculture
2030: 50 %
grain from regenerative and organic agriculture
Transport
The shorter the route to the mill, the better for us and our planet
We do not lag behind in transport and try to be as efficient as possible. The carbon dioxide emissions generated when transporting grain to the mill and products from the mill represent only 3.57% of the mill’s total carbon footprint. We are also looking for ways to reduce the carbon footprint in this sector. The most important thing for us is long-term cooperation with local farmers.

Production and packaging
Maximum production efficiency and minimum packaging materials
At Mill Perner, we produce flour with maximum efficiency. Total energy consumption accounts for only 4.86% of the company’s total carbon footprint. This includes all processes including grain cleaning, milling, storage, packaging and shipping. We also have very low water consumption in the mill and our own wastewater treatment plant. The total amount of purchased drinking water corresponded to 0.34% of all emissions at the mill.
In addition, we do not burden the planet by throwing away unnecessary packaging materials. Approximately 80% of the flour produced is delivered to customers in flour tankers and therefore no packaging is required. The rest of the flour is packed in bags made of jute, polypropylene or paper, which are recyclable according to the ČSN EN 13430 standard on requirements for packaging usable for recycling materials. Thus, all packaging materials used in the mill are recyclable.

Flour
Flour of the highest quality produced responsibly
The result of our efforts is flour of the highest quality, produced responsibly for our customers, suppliers and the planet. Thanks to the latest technology, we produce the best quality flour for some of the largest producers of bakery and pastry products in the Czech Republic and Europe.
Together with our suppliers and customers, we will do our utmost to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement on climate change and achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
