The history of the Perner Mill dates to the 15th century. The original mill was founded in 1420 and its later owners included, in addition to miller families, the famous noble families of Wallenstein, Schlick and Vartenberg.
In the 19th century, the mill was owned by Michal Mácha, brother of the poet Karel Hynek Mácha.
In 1933, the mill was bought by Bohumil Perner, the son of a miller in Májov near Chrudim. He and his wife expanded and modernised the mill during the 1930s. Bohumil’s uncle Jan Perner (1815-1845) was a patriot and a railway builder.
In 1992, Bohumil Perner’s sons, Bohumil and Jan, regained the mill in a very worn out state in restitution. At that time, the mill had a production capacity of 80 tonnes/24 h. The brothers understood that it was necessary to modernise the mill, buy new means of transport and equip the laboratory. Bohumil took care of the business and quality of flour; Jan took care of the engineering technology. At that time, the partner mills in Germany were a great help to the brothers.
In 1995, the company Prokop Pardubice supplied new milling technology with a capacity of 120 tonnes/24 h.
In 2007, Daniel Perner became the majority owner, however, he began to take over the management of the company from his father towards the end of 1990s. Today, he successfully continues the family tradition and makes use of his experience gained in mills in Switzerland, Luxembourg and Germany. Daniel Perner graduated from the School of Food Technology in Pardubice and fell in love with the craft of milling.
The mill underwent extensive modernisation between 2009 and 2012, thanks to which it became the most modern Czech mill with a production of more than 150,000 tonnes of flour per year. This corresponds to about 14% of industrial wheat flour production in the Czech Republic. The new state-of-the-art technology was supplied by the Bühler company from Switzerland.
In 2018, a brand new milling line from Bühler was launched, which mills wholemeal flour into a very fine granulation. The new technology brought Perner mill a USP in milling wholemeal flour as the fineness of wholemeal flour and capacity of the line is unrivalled in the Czech Republic. For the first time in its history, Perner Mill is starting to supply the market with its own premium flour under the Pernerka brand.
A new type of Pernerka flour is launched; Pernerka very strong white flour with a high content of gluten proteins, which is perfect for products that require longer dough rising for strength and elasticity.
